What Is A “SODOMITE”?

 A SHORT STUDY ON HEBREW WORDS RELATING TO THE SODOMITE ISSUE

S ODOMITES WERE people who lived in the ancient city of Sodom, where unnatural sex-acts and sick perversions flourished. The inhabitants of Sodom were so sexually gross that the term “sodomite” was coined to mean an immoral sex pervert (Deut. 23:17,18; II Kings 23:7). One Hebrew word for a “sodomite” is qadesh, which means “a male temple prostitute,” or more generically, “a devotee to licentious idolatry” (I Kings 14:24). Qadesh is also rendered as “unclean” in Job 36:14, speaking in reference to the immoral lifestyle of sodomites. The feminine form of this word qedeshah, is translated as “whore” (Deut. 23:17) and “harlot” (Hosea 4:14) in the King James Version, and carries the same meaning, but applies it more specifically to women.

Pagans who lived in the days of ancient Israel were well-known to worship their demon gods by practicing illicit sex-acts. Such religious prostitution and sexual immorality was acceptable to the pagans in the abominable city of Sodom; clearly, the most prominent form of lewdness was homosexuality. “[The] men of the city of Sodom, both young and old...surrounded the house. And they called to Lot, and said, Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, THAT WE MAY KNOW [BE INTIMATE WITH] THEM.”

Then Lot pleaded with them, “I beg of you, my brothers, do not behave so wickedly” (Genesis 19:4-7, AMP). The Living Bible rightly captures the context and meaning of verse five by saying, “[The] men of the city-yes, Sodomites, young and old from all over the city-surrounded the house and shouted to Lot, ‘Bring out those men to us SO WE CAN RAPE THEM.’”

A scriptural counterpart to this reference on sodomy is found in Judges 19, where we read about an almost identical account on the violent behavior of homosexuals. In this second reference, sodomites-who are here called “sons of Belial”: that is, sons of the Devil-attempt to have homosexual sex with a man, but their efforts are thwarted and they end up raping and killing a woman (concubine) in perverse rage.

Therefore, in light of the above information, when the scriptures refer to “male temple prostitutes” or “sodomites,” it is understood that the male prostitutes were not only heterosexual, but often homosexual—the men had sex with both women and men.

An elementary study of Eastern history further shows how the practice of homosexuality was widespread among the pagans during the rise of the Hebrew nation; and since homosexuality was so common, God needed to speak vehemently against it. “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is ABOMINATION” (Leviticus 18:22). The Living Bible puts it this way: “Homosexuality is absolutely forbidden, for it is an enormous sin.” Some deluded liberal scholars suggest that God condones “sincere” homosexual relationships, and only condemns homosexual prostitution and other criminal acts of homosexuality such as rape; however, Leviticus 18:22 demolishes that idea. The LORD considers ALL sodomite acts and ALL sodomites, including “sincere” and “gentle” homosexuals, to be sick perverts who commit abominations; and the Lord makes absolutely NO such distinction between homosexual criminals and “civil” homosexuals. Despite all apparently innocent motives, regardless of all well-worded excuses, it is ALWAYS an abomination for a man to lie with a man: “THOU SHALT NOT lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”

Nelson’s Bible Dictionary takes the testimony of the whole Bible into consideration and properly defines a “sodomite” in broad terms as anyone who practices: “unnatural sexual intercourse, especially that between two males.” So, a sodomite is an “unnatural,” vile human being, whether he is literally a prostitute, a rapist, or simply an average homosexual. Ultimately, all practicing homosexuals are by nature spiritual prostitutes, for they sell their souls to sin; and they are also spiritual rapists who do not love and live in truth but simply use the truth for gain and “rape” it (distort it) to satisfy their lusts.

Notably, in Leviticus 18, the word translated “abomination” in the King James version is a strong Hebrew word, towebah, suggests an act so disgusting that it is likened to the act of sacrificing a small, defenseless, child in scorching flames (Lev. 18:22 cf. “abominations” in II Kings 16:3; I Kings 14:24). YES, HOMOSEXUALS ARE NO BETTER THAN PROSTITUTES (QADESHIYM) WHOSE SEXUAL IMMORALITY IS SO PUTREFYING (TOWEBAH) THAT GOD CLASSIFIES THEM IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS SADISTIC CHILD SLAYERS!! For this reason, during the time of the first covenant, the LORD condemned homosexuals to be put to death: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:13).

Now, by the standard of the second covenant, we Christians no longer enforce the killing of homosexuals in a physical sense, but we do “kill” all relationships and social ties with any practicing sodomites. We certainly must not have fellowship with them.

“What I meant was that you are NOT TO KEEP COMPANY with anyone who claims to be a brother

Christian but indulges in sexual sins...Don’t even eat lunch with such a person” (I Cor. 5:11-13, TLB).

“[What] fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial?...Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you” (II Cor. 6:14-17).

Indeed, God is no less repulsed now with the sodomites than He was in those days with ancient Israel. “Don’t you know that those doing such things have no share in the kingdom of god? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who live immoral lives, who are idol worshipers, adulterers or HOMOSEXUALS-WILL HAVE NO SHARE IN HIS KINGDOM” (I Cor. 6:9-10, TLB; see also Rev. 22:15-16).

In the Bible, a male sodomite is also referred to as a “dog” (keleb), because he performs his lewd sexual acts in a position that resembles the way dogs mount each other for intercourse. Deuteronomy 23:17-18 reads, “THERE SHALL BE NO WHORE OF THE DAUGHTERS OF ISRAEL, NOR A SODOMITE of the sons of Israel. Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the Lord thy God for any vow.” Here we see that those who are sexually immoral such as a “whore” (qedeshah) and a “sodomite” (qadesh) have no right or privilege to offer money or services unto God. Why, then, in most modern day churches, do so-called Christians welcome unrepentant homosexuals into their congregations? Why do so-called Christians allow such dogs to be members, tithe payers, workers, and even elders? How can they justify gross sin?

“HOMOSEXUALITY IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN, FOR IT IS AN ENORMOUS SIN”  (Leviticus 18:22, TLB).I kings 15:12 reads, “And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did David his father. AND HE TOOK AWAY THE SODOMITES OUT OF THE LAND, and removed all of the idols his fathers had made.” This passage speaks clearly of King Asa, who “did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord” and abolished the sodomites from the land. King Asa not only refused any sodomite to be an active member in the Lord’s kingdom, but he even refused the very presence of any sodomite in his kingdom. Moreover, by shunning and excommunicating all sodomites, king Asa pleased the Lord!

King Josiah was a man who followed God and did not deviate from the Lords commandments (II Kings 22:1). The scriptures reveal that he, just like king Asa, saw the abominations of the sodomites and thus took militant action against them. “And he [Josiah] brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the LORD” (II Kings 23:7). The king hated the idea of sex perverts living near the Lord’s house, and the Lord blessed Josiah for his aggressive actions against sin.

The churches in the United States (especially) are full of sodomites and all other fornicators who are committing physical and spiritual adultery on God. If the sodomites do not repent, God will cast them into the Lake of Fire, where they will abide forever with every other whoremongering idolater (Revelation 21:8). In case you think I’m only referring to males, let me assure you that practicing lesbians and all other lewd women will likewise be damned forever.

“So God let them go ahead into every sort of sex sin, and do whatever they wanted to—yes, vile and sinful things with each other’s bodies. Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies...That is why God let go of them and let them do all those evil things, so that even THEIR WOMEN TURNED AGAINST GOD’S NATURAL PLAN FOR THEM AND INDULGED IN SEX SIN WITH EACH OTHER” (Romans 1:24-26ff, TLB).

It doesn’t matter if you are a professed Christian. If you fornicate, commit adultery, or engage in homosexual or lesbian perversions, you are nothing more than a sodomite—a prostitute and a dog!—who directly opposes the Word of God in thought and action. Right now, you may have the audacity to bring an offering to God with filthy hands that drip with AIDS and every other curse that Jesus brings upon the disobedient; however, your audacity will gain you nothing in the end but damnation.

Furthermore, you who passively condone sodomy are just as filthy in the eyes of the Lord, and you too will writhe in everlasting flames. Consider this warning: “And don’t forget the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, all full of lust of every kind including lust of men for other men [going after strange flesh-KJV]. Those cities were destroyed by fire and continue to be a warning to us that THERE IS A HELL IN WHICH SINNERS ARE PUNISHED” (Jude 7, TLB).
