Before America became the United States, 13 colonies were united by their common history, tongue, & customs; by their common sense of betrayal as British subjects; & by their common suspicion of remote & centralized power. After winning their hard-fought 8-year conflict, they were brought together as “Americans.”
Before the 13 colonies became the United States of America, each colony had its own constitution with references to God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus etc. In the new Republic, God, Jesus, Holy Spirit was left out! This is not to say that the U.S. constitution wasn’t good; it was/is a good humanist document. The U.S. government has managed to keep the democratic faith (“we the people”) with the American people & fulfill the Constitution’s pledge to “secure the blessings of liberty” for all citizens – be they believers or non-believers. 55 men set the course of America, an assembly of “demigods.” These 55 hammered out the government superstructure under which the U.S. has flourished ever since – with God & without Him! Biblical Christianity was not part of the New America. By this I mean it was never America’s religion written into the Constitution. At the outset of the Revolution, a majority of the 13 colonies still had established tax-supported faiths. There were the congregational Christians (3 New England colonies), and other sects making up the rest of the colonies.
In 1785, Thomas Jefferson’s “Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom” finally was passed. It declared “all men shall be free to profess, & by argument to maintain, their opinions in matter of religion” & guaranteed Virginians against being compelled to “support only religious worship, place or ministry whatsoever.” We know Thomas Jefferson was not a Biblical Christian, therefore he wanted the new Republic not to be considered “Christian.” He wanted other faiths (Hindu/Jewish/Muslim et al.) to have free reign. So, dear Christians, STOP calling America a “Christian Nation.” It never was. Yes, it has always had the majority being “Christian” but this does not make the U.S. a “Christian” nation.
It is said that 9 out 10 Americans in 1775 were at least nominal Protestants, even if the vast majority were not church goers. Protestant sects flourished – Quakers, Mennonites, all kinds of denominations made up America. But most of the Signers/Founding Fathers were not Biblical Christians. Some used Biblical terminologies, which was common, but to be baptized & become a covenant keeper was not in the majority.
Historian Martin E. Marty pointed out that “apathy, not antipathy” characterized the Founding Father’s approach to Biblical Christianity in the new Republic. Many believed in “natural rights” & “reason.” Thomas Jefferson & Thomas Paine especially were not Christian. George Washington never partook of communion: he visited other religions as well. He was not an Orthodox or sectarian Christian.
Did you know that NO clergyman attended the Constitutional Convention, & the Constitution itself contains NOT A SINGLE RELIGIOUS reference = the word “God” does not appear once! Do you believe the new Republic was “Christian?”
Accordingly, the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791, begins by declaring that the “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” In essence, this gave anti-Christian /anti Bible faiths to be equal with Biblical Christianity. Even before the new Republic was established, the 13 colonies had grown lax in their Christian faith: Even before the Revolution, 4 colonies had guaranteed religious liberty. During the struggle 5 States discontinued their support of official religions. It is known, later Virginia, too, bowed to deists & dissenters & left her official Anglican faith in 1786. It is known that Massachusetts was the last holdout, finally leaving official support for Congregationalism in 1833.
Here’s what George Washington wrote in a letter to the Jewish congregation of Newport, Rhode Island. He wrote, “to be spoke of as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people that another enjoyed their natural rights. For… the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens.”
George Washington was for all religions! This certainly contradicts the teachings of the Bible. Jesus, the founder of Christianity (and the real/true New World Order) proclaimed, “I AM the WAY, the TRUTH, & the LIFE. NO one comes to the Father except through Me!!!” – Jn. 14:6. This settles it. All other faiths will not get one into Heaven. These are His Words, not mine.
So, why did the U.S. Constitution leave out the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit?
The story about General George Washington, kneeling in the snow praying is not true according to many historians. It sounded good when written about; factually it was made up. George Washington was a “religious” person. This was evident. But to claim him as being a Bible-believing Christian is not true. He belonged to the Anglican denomination but refused communion. He was also a deist and a Freemason. Freemasons purport to embrace all religions. He was a high-ranking mason (Grand Master), hence, “religious.” It is said that on his deathbed he converted to Roman Catholicism, a mixture of Biblical Christianity & occultism!
Like I’ve stated, Masons & deists et al. use Biblical terms but are NOT saved by the blood of Jesus. The Declaration of Independence uses “our Creator,” a remarkably inclusive term, but not necessarily “Christian.”
If you do not personally know the Father, Son, or the Holy Spirit, now is the time to know them: REPENT of your sins, invite Jesus into your heart. (John the Baptist, Jesus & the New Testament authors spoke about repentance.) Joining a church is not what Jesus wants. He says, “Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.” – Mt. 4:17. God is NOW raising up a new breed of believers – “Warriors for Righteousness.”
The myth that America is “Christian” needs to be exposed. (a good read is Matt Stewert’s “Nature’s God: The Heretical Origins of the American Republic.” Stop worshipping the U.S. Constitution & start worshipping the One who originated governments. George Washington was an Anglican (later Episcopal & at the end of his life, a Roman Catholic -if one can believe this report). He was also a Freemason, a deist & a politician. He was the “father” of our nation.
